Helix Safety Policy

Accepting and Protecting Our Church Community

We as the leadership of Helix Foursquare Church believe that one of the basic duties and most needed functions of our church is to follow the example of Jesus and accept and welcome people as they are with all their flaws and problems. Our goal is to be a hospital for the hurting and not just a “holy huddle.” Likewise, we believe we have a responsibility to patiently encourage all who consider themselves a part of our community to seek health and walk into freedom—leaving behind sin and unhealthy behaviors.

We welcome anyone to attend our church meetings on Sunday mornings and we do not have a formal membership process or requirement. We offer accountability and support to anyone that chooses to get involved available through bi-monthly prayer meetings and regular men’s and women’s groups. Church leaders are also available to meet with and counsel and pray with people individually as well.

While we welcome anyone to attend Sunday morning church meetings, we as a leadership, are also dedicated to always be vigilant regarding those who could potentially harm or take advantage of others in our community. We are passionate about maintaining a safe environment at the Helix. We believe strongly and unequivocally that it is our responsibility to protect the community and the innocent from harm to the best of our ability and extent possible.

We reserve the right to ask anyone to limit their interaction with others in the church—particularly, we reserve the right to ask people not to teach, mentor, disciple, or have influence over others if we believe that in doing so the impact may be counter-productive or harmful. We reserve the right to ask anyone to limit their contact with children in the church or other vulnerable people within our community if we believe such interaction could be counter-productive or harmful.

We reserve the right to ask anyone to stop attending church meetings if we have evidence that they are predatory in their behavior—whether that is seeking to take advantage of others financially, emotionally, or sexually. Further, we reserve the right to inform the community regarding individuals of whom we have evidence have engaged in predatory behavior.

We as a church are dedicated to handle each person, each situation, and the community carefully and responsibly through prayer and with grace, gentleness, and humility and in accordance with the laws of the State of Oregon. We are committed to seek counsel and guidance from the Foursquare denomination as needed.

We continue to prioritize being a safe place, maintaining healthy boundaries, not enabling people or ignoring problems, and talking openly and with humility about our own mistakes and shortcomings. We will continue to offer healthy accountability to members of our community—encouraging them to seek positive change through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, counsel from church leaders, and if appropriate, counsel from trained professionals. The health, growth, and well being of each individual that attends the Helix and the health, growth, and well being of our community are both priorities to us and we are continually seeking to meet the needs of both and the betterment of both.
